| Introduction | Emily Hedrick is a native of North Carolina, where she worked in journalism, public relations and nonprofit fundraising for 40 years before the great blessing of being laid off at the end of 2008. After living many years in the beautiful Queen City of Charlotte, she pulled up stakes and moved in October 2015 to the aptly named "Holy City" of Charleston, South Carolina, where she now joyfully pursues a new life wallowing in the rich, exquisite Lowcountry culture she has always loved. She sings in a choir, takes advantage of as much of Charleston's amazing artistic life as possible, reads a lot, piddles even more, and spends a fair amount of time at the beach. In summary, she does a great impression of a slug. Her love for travel remains intact, even though she lives in one of the world's great holiday destinations. Some people might call this stage of life "retirement." Borrowing a phrase from a fellow Baby Boomer who found herself in a similar situation, she prefers to describe this ongoing process as “repotting herself.” Emily has traveled to 20 foreign countries and 35 of the 50 states -- so far. |
