About me

LocationNorthcote, Melbourne
IntroductionI'm a year 12 student at Northcote High. I'm a political queer and a socialist. I aim to oppose oppression, wherever I see it. Recently I have been noticing increasing amount of sexism and queer-phobia, hence this blog. That is not to say it has been occurring more frequently this time, but that I have become more and more aware of it recently. Generally I'm not a fan of identity politics, hence the use of the umbrella term 'queer' rather than a specific sexuality or gender identity. The use of the term queer is itself an unfortunately necessary reflective of a degree of identity politics. You do not have to be queer to comment on this blog, though if you are queer-phobic you can be assured that your comments will not be received pleasantly. What does ‘Queer’ mean? Queer is a term used in a number of different ways; as an ‘umbrella’ term for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, genderqueer and other non-heterosexual identities. It is also used as a way of reclaiming and co-opting a once negative term; to remove queer as a term of abuse. The term Queer also alludes to a fluidity of gender and sexuality and a rejection of socially imposed categories.
