Introduction As a child I was writing as soon as I knew how. I was a solitary kid, happiest when left alone to dream up stories or lose myself in a good book. I had all the Noddy books, all the Ramona books, all of The Secret Seven. I would have traded my baby toe for one hour inside that giant peach.

Now, if you whittle away all the books that stuck with me: A Fine Balance, Possession, An Equal Music; all the books that shaped me, changed me, that over and over made me human, there is really only one that refuses to let go. If we can have one true love in literature, mine is The Secret History: pages curled, spine disintegrating, cover missing. I doubt I will ever come to terms with its perfect, agonizing beauty.
Favorite Books The Secret History, A Fine Balance, Dry, Eat Pray Love, An Equal Music, We Need To Talk About Kevin, A Fatal Inversion, The Princess Bride, The BFG, Possession, Babel Tower, Enduring Love
