About me

Location Bodmin, Cornwall
Introduction Ashley’s distinctive, vibrantly coloured paintings are inspired by his travels, the coastal landscape and American fiction. His paintings are an intriguing mix of observation, memory and imagination and are driven by ideas, a love of colour and his ambition to both define a place and find something new in each piece he makes. Applying layer upon layer of bold bright colours and often working in series with the paintings feeding each other, the shapes of places are incessantly reworked and redrawn. Ashley is a former prize-winner in the Hunting Art Prizes and was also a recipient of a Boise Travel Scholarship from the Slade School of Art. His work has been selected for the R.A Summer Exhibition, National Open Art Competition, Discerning Eye and the Ludlow Open and he is currently gallery artist at Modern Artists Gallery, Reading. Other galleries he has shown at include Edgar Modern, Bath, the Belgrave Gallery, St Ives and the Campden Gallery. In addition to running his own painting holidays and workshops, alongside his wife and business partner Denise , Ashley has been a Visiting Lecturer at Canterbury Christchurch University and KHIB in Bergen, Norway.
