| Introduction | Living in Alaska for almost 30 years, we had a recreational sled dog team and did competitive weight pulling. In 2005 our family raised its first guide dog puppy and we were hooked! A year later we moved to Virginia and continued as PR's. To date we've raised 7 guide puppies, 6 for Southeastern Guide Dogs. 5 of those 7 puppies went on to be guide dogs. Current puppy #8 is being raised for St Francis Service Dogs. I also coordinate a therapy dog group with about 15 members and act as a Tester/Observer for Therapy Dogs Inc. Therapy dog Wrangell and I regularly visit nursing/rehab facilities, libraries, a school for children w autism, an adult day care for the mentally handicapped, and most recently, a regional hospital. Also I teach puppy/dog classes and am a CGC Evaluator. Each service pup raised holds a unique place in our hearts. This blog has a page featuring each of the 8 dogs, as well as lessons, challenges, joys and insights these special pups have taught us along the way. |
