About me

LocationChesapeake, Virginia, United States
IntroductionMy name is Sean, and I am a practicing, unrepentant politics junkie. Born in 1970, my first memory of politics is the 1976 presidential election. Been hooked on the stuff ever since.

Among Democrats, I'm fairly conservative. Among Republicans, I'm fairly liberal. Among Libertarians, I find that lots of people agree with me--and that I'm frightened by it.

If I have an ideology, it is grounded simultaneously in what is right and what is practical. Don't confuse practical with expedient. While they frequently point in the same direction, they don't always. When expedient and practical take me down the same path, so be it. (After all, to get off the path that leads to efficient accomplishment would be, well, impractical.)

What I'm after when I say "practical" is policy that is achievable, responsible and sustainable. It means we work for compromise so we can find "good enough" when we can't agree on "perfect." It means we don't set policy that is true to our ideals but blind to conditions. It means we pay our own bills instead of passing them to our children or grandchildren.

That's about it. Simple enough, I think.
