| Introduction | Swim Coach to Fareham Nomads S.C. was responsible for coaching the 'Masters Squad.' Retired earlier than expected due to CV-19. I have been connected with the club since the mid 80's when my two daughters joined the club. During this I have held many positions including the Chair of the Club and on two occasions was the Head Coach (1991-2006) & (2013 - 2016). This was recognised by Fareham Borough Council in 2016-2017 when I was made a Citizen of Honour of the Borough. I served in the Royal Navy for 26 years (Fleet Air Arm), and among others served aboard HMS Hermes, Ark Royal, Bulwark, Eskimo and shore bases Daedalus, Heron, Portland, Culdrose & Lossiemouth. I was discharged in April 1987. I have took up road cycling in Oct 2018 in to complete the London to Brighton cycle ride (Sep 2019) to raise funds for the club so that they can build their own swimming pool which will secure the future of the club for the next 50 years. During the early part of my training for this fundraising event I was diagnosed with Cancer of the Bladder (July 2019). This blog is about my journey, treatment and prognosis for this disease together with my fundraising efforts. |
