| Introduction | I was born and raised in small town Wyoming. I moved to Laramie after high school and studied Secondary English Education. I came out during my sophomore year of college, and soon became the chair of the GLBT student group, Spectrum. I was the chair in 1998 when Matthew Shepard was killed, and helped create and organize Angel Action, a counter-protest against Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church. I worked at UW Information Technology for 13 years supervising student employees. In 2008 I made my passion my profession and moved to UW's Office of Diversity and Employment Practices. I conduct sexual harassment training, help review EEO paperwork for hiring, and investigate complaints of civil rights discrimination. I am involved with several local charities and organizations, and have traveled to schools and universities around the country speaking about hate and violence. My husband and I started dating just after I switched jobs, and we were "married" in 2010. Our daughter was born in May 2013 and continues to amaze us every day. |
