Introduction Born Oakley Orville Traynor Jr, friends call me Oakley or Oak. Growing up in a household with a father of the same name resulted in the distinguishing name "Skip." Distinguished in the sense of who’s going to clean the outhouse as opposed to marked by eminence. Oakley Senior was named after his father’s brother. The Oakley Traynor American Legion Post in Flint, Mich., was named for my great uncle at a time when patriotism was an admirable and useful social quality. His dubious honor was to be the first soldier from Genesee County to die in World War I. Removed from Ireland two generations on my mother’s side and three on my father’s, my people are hard drinking, hard fighting and hard loving people who, like many Irish immigrants in Flint, built America’s cars and neighborhood bars. My mother sang to the customers while Grandpa Kelly played poker in the back room of the Happy Hour on Chevrolet Avenue. When Dad died, Stroh’s saved the family jewels by returning their product line to ice cream. My professional persona "Skip" paves the way to explore this fascinating world with my family, friends and hunting and fishing partners. Now this is fun.
