| Introduction | Zahra Jafarpour (b. 1984 in Iran) is a conceptual and multimedia artist working at the intersection of various disciplines. Born during the war between Iran and Iraq. In her generation, studying the arts was considered useless. In the aftermath of the war, Iran underwent a rebuilding phase that prioritized sciences and engineering, leaving little room for artistic expression. The Iranian government also imposed censorship and restricted creative freedoms. All of these reasons led Jafarpour to pursue a bachelor's degree in computer engineering as her first choice. After graduation, she changed her major to art. She earned two master's degrees in fine arts in Tehran in 2010 and Milan in 2018. Currently residing in Dallas, Jafarpour is pursuing a Ph.D. in Visual Arts at UTD University. |
