Introduction	Like most people I am fundamentally a mixed bag of contradictions. On the surface of it I would call myself a bit of a hippy, and others probably would too. The things I'm passionate about certainly point in that direction, but it's definitely not the whole story. I grew up in an old manse amongst a very middle class family, but for the past few years I have lived off-grid in a camper van and now a narrowboat with my own growing family. With every passing day I believe more and more in disestablishment - natural healthcare and home birth, home education, the right not to work - and yet I am also slave to NHS prescriptions for a variety of chronic conditions, a twice-graduate from a traditional university and I run my own business. Whilst I dream of self sufficiency, I also love to indulge in little splurges and luxuries and like to be able to have the means and freedom to do so. In short, I may not be what you think I am; I often wonder what kind of first impression I create, and what people make of me, and whether they can see down through the layers of half-finished paint jobs.
