If mud is dirt plus water, what is clay?

Clay is more than just plain dirt. It is a promise of potential, the possibility of creation. Technically, it's hydrated silicates of aluminum that make clay both squishy and hard. I have always enjoyed working and playing with clay. On the other hand, I have done battle with clay as a gardener and landscaper. Not Fun!
