Introduction My journey began as a passionate student at the University of California. It is here where I began chronicling my father’s dreadful fate, which just two years into my undergraduate studies, microscopic deterioration of motor neurons in Dad's brain and spine began to fail. Loss of these motor neurons ravaged his extremities with muscular atrophy (wasting away), wrenching away his speech and mobility. With my father's health in jeopardy and my academic studies undermined, I faced the grim visage and implications of my father’s diagnosis: rapid onset Amytropic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS disease. Prognosis: 2-3 years.
