IntroductionI found fiber arts and more specifically felting in 2011. I read that you could paint with wool. Being up for a challenge, I figured give it a try. Nine years later I find that I am actively exhibiting and selling my work and continuously growing in skill. Turns out you can paint with wool. You take tiny wisps of fibers, blend and layer them in multiple layers of detail. The fibers are my brush strokes. When my fluffy fiber image is created, I soak the fiber in hot water and add a little mild soap. Then the work begins. You rub, roll and drop the work until it felts together. If I am lucky every brush stroke remains in place and is at least somewhat visible. The felting process tends to soften the image making it look more like a pastel. When it is dry, I can add detail using needle felting. I wet felt again to seal in the new fibers and reassess. When I am happy, I allow the art to dry and mount it on mat board. Unlike many artists that use only plain black frames I take the time to match each frame to the art. I often receive compliments at art fairs about the framing.
