Our purpose is to inform parents and guardians of special needs children as well as those acting as trustees of special needs trusts, of this ins and outs of managing a special needs trust for a disabled beneficiary. A special needs trust (“SNT”) is a wonderful tool to assist the enrich the life of a disabled individual but managing such a trust can sometimes be a dangerous and treacherous journey without proper guidance. The incredibly complex world of public benefits, such as Medicaid, supplemental security income (“SSI”), social security disability, and Medicare, along with a host of other forms of federal and state welfare programs create a confusing maze to navigate even for the most good willed and discerning parent or professional trust officer.
