| Introduction | Pastors are defined by what they believe about God, the Bible and themselves. I am a five point Calvinist, a cessationist, joyfully expecting a premillenial, pre-tribulational rapture. I like the Chicago Council on Inerrancy. I have been at cancer institutes twice in my life. Once 23 years ago where most of the better parts that regulate metabolism were radiation bombed. I have just passed my year and a half anniversary of round two by the grace of God. Philippians 1: 23, 24 ; 3: 20, 21 |
| Interests | First I am the unworthy recipient of grace where I had my sins charged up to the account of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. His righteousness, in fact, the righteousness of God, was credited to my account; not because of what I was worthy of or could be foreseen to be worthy of, or I would have been abandoned and passed over. The determining impulse for me being made a joint heir with Christ was a choice to love me by my Father and a choice to absorb the wrath I deserved by the Son in His death on the cross as a payment for sin purely because I was needy and had nothing to commend myself. I am now a delighted slave of Christ as part of that package - recognizing Who He really is - Master. Second, I am the husband of a red haired Irish lass that was bitten rather extravagantly by the cute bug. I am the father of a charming daughter, 24, a son, 23, and twin boys of 19. I am a prairie farm boy who pays the bills by managing a small oilfield service company that designs and manufactures drilling fluid additives, and retails a line of fertilizers. My surpassing passion, however, is the preaching of the cross and the teaching of the Word of God. I currently serve as a planting pastor at Reformed By Grace Baptist Church. Long ago, I worked oil rigs in the Canadian High Arctic, logged soft-wood, and contract operated gas wells. I shoot a 7mm Remington caliber Weatherby that I hand-load for, and I shoot an old, old Golden Eagle compound bow. I take the fathers and sons in the church (or from the area) shooting gophers. I pull wrenches, drive truck, occasionally skin cat and track-hoe, weld steel, stainless steel and aluminum and play a Fender Stratocaster for worship when the musicians are on vacation. But mostly, I love to preach. |
| Favorite movies | We Were Soldiers, The Princess Bride, Fiddler On the Roof, and yes, Star Trek (on a mind in neutral level) |
| Favorite music | Grew up on C.C.R., now like the Gettys, and some bluegrass |
| Favorite books | The Bible, about anything written by John MacArthur, Robert L Thomas, Richard Mayhue, Stephen Charnock, Owen, Jay Adams, Wayne Mack; "The Justification of God" by Piper, "Willing to Believe" and "Saved From What?" by Sproul. "The Gospel of Jesus Christ" by MacArthur rescued my ministry from shipwreck, and his commentary on Ephesians set the direction of my marriage 26 years ago. I also read anything being written by Ed Welch, Matt Waymeyer, Will Varner and Dan Phillips (World Tilting Gospel, God's Wisdom in Proverbs). I wish I had read Tedd Tripp, "Shepherding a Child's Heart" earlier. |
