| Introduction | As a teenager I always had an interest in the canal system. For some strange reason the engineering fascinated me. In the sixties hire boats were pretty much unheard of when by pure chance me and my pal were cycling in Cheshire and came across a hire boat base. We were invited by the owner to look at the boats and immediately elected to save enough money to try a holiday afloat for a week That was the beginning of an appreciation of what a wonderful leisure activity canal holidays were Boat ownership eventually followed until pending retirement meant the cost was a little too much and so that was the end of that, so I thought. I happened to mention to a couple of my old friends that a hire boat holiday might be a good way of growing old disgracefully That was enough and the three of us decided on a canal trip. We have done this now for the past five years and will continue to do so for as long as we can By the way my real name isn't Will N Hall. That's just a take on a place of which I have fond memories; but that's another strory |
