About me

Gender Male
Occupation Blissfully retired
Location London, United Kingdom
Introduction I’m half-Norwegian, half-Scots. I lived in Norway till I was six – it’s been London since then. I have a degree in Philosophy from Cambridge. I worked in publishing for a bit, then became a full-time novelist for seven years, with nine titles published. I worked for the BBC for 18 years, including stints as a TV News producer, politics producer, editor of live political programmes, BBC Online Homepage editor, and Head of Interactive TV . I left the BBC nine years ago to set up my own new media consultancy, and, after helping launch the BBC Persian and BBC Arabic TV channels, I retired for good three years ago. I’m a right-wing Conservative who worries about the way we’re ruled by a liberal-left nomenklatura which seems more interested in telling us what to think than doing what we ask of it. I started this blog three years ago because I enjoy writing, and to let off steam. It keeps me in touch with friends – two of my regular commenters turned out to be chums I hadn’t seen for 40 years. I live a modest life in a nice part of West London with my wife and teenage son.
