| Introduction | "In addition to the choice of words, positioning of words, and the sequencing of words, it is above all the entire overall resonance of the poetic telling that "expresses" the so-called meaning. Yet this overall resonance of the telling is not simply the result of the positioning of words and arranging of lines, but rather the reverse: the overall resonance of the telling is the initial, creative resonance that first intimates the language; it is the origin not only for the arranging and positioning of the words, but also for the choice of words, an origin that in its resonance constantly anticipates the use of words. This overall resonance of the telling, however, is from the outset determined by the fundamental attunement of the poetry, which takes form within the inner outline of the whole. The fundamental attunement for its part grows out of the particular metaphysical locale of the poetry in question." Martin Heidegger, Hoelderlin's hymns "Germania" and "The Rhine", translated by William McNeill, not yet published. |
| Interests | Reading mostly, music if I can find new good bands: that means good lyrics, which are hard to find, banging my djembe drum, sleeping... |
| Favorite movies | I think all standard films fall far short of silent and artistic films: random chronology, absence of plot, but any meaning you wish to attribute to the incredible aesthetic imagery: Baraka, for instance. |
| Favorite music | This is difficult: I like good lyrics: I would prefer to put poetry to music, but it's very difficult. But at different times, depending on my mood, I like different styles of music. I don't care to be cool or trendy: I like what I like and that's that: Lamb, Muse, Dead can Dance, but I also like jazz, Dave, classical, to give you a taste. |
| Favorite books | Even more difficult: Nietzsche comes out in alot of my writing, as does Heidegger, Rosenzweig, Hegel, Kierkegaard, Blake, Lacan. Or to get to the more technical books that I actually read, Masao Abe, Nehamas, K.M.Higgins, Magnus, Levinas...I could go on all day. Right now I am reading J.G.Frazer's 'The Golden Bough' - a must read for anyone interested in mythology or the collective unconscious. |
If you were a cannibal, what would you wear to dinner?
Nothing, I would eat myself because I would never forgive myself for having hurt another being.
