| Introduction | I am on my path to a career, and hopefully I will be closing on it soon. After spending 4 years in the U.S. Army, I did another 2 years in the NY National Guard, while going to school. I graduated with a B.A. in Government from John Jay College in 2.5 years. A week after my graduation I was heading to Columbia University for a Master's degree. Another year had passed and I now had a freshly pressed diploma from Ivy League. Sounds great, but it certainly did not help my job-less situation. So here I am and still looking. Although it has not been long since I graduated (May, 2012), I am taking this time to truly understand what does one has to do to get a break. First this blog served as homework for a Veteran Career organization called Four Block. We were invited to multiple leading corporations that would teach us tricks of the trade and introduce us to their industry. I will always be grateful for the opportunity, but I believe the rest lies on me. It is time for me to break those closed doors, stuff my resumes in people’s hands like I served them, and get confident, even if I have to fake it. |
