About me

Introduction Once upon a time I traveled, for no good reason save that I had the resources and lack of any responsibility, and feared that the time would someday come when I would not be able to travel beyond the end of the paved road, and any memories that I might hope to have I should get then. So now I remember those Amazon mornings when I lay in my hammock and the sun rose due east above the river and poured through the open deck of our riverboat, or I drifted silently in a canoe through a flooded forest. Or hot Greek days as I walked across a sun-blasted island and rested against a stone dike in the shade of an ancient olive tree or, on the porch of a small church, shared my supper with a cat. Or the coolness of a dark interior on a Mexican afternoon when the tropical rain poured down from the sky and disappeared, drank up by the dry air and drier earth.
