Introduction Concrete to Iron: Concrete, brick, dirt, all needed to make the very projects where I grew up. Newark, NJ, nicknamed Brick City for the infinite number of projects that littered the city. I hated the projects and always wanted to become more than what they offered. Long story short, I joined the Army as sure way to get away from the concrete jungle! I joined the Army in 1997 and honorably discharged in 2001, just before 9/11. All my life I struggled with my weight. In 2003, finally, at 232lbs, I decided I needed to change. I began living a healthy lifestyle except I was drinking every single day! I was a half-marathon running alcoholic. Nineteen months ago I got sober and really wanted to push my limits. I remembered seeing the Kona Ironman in 2007 and just remember crying my eyes out. From then on I wished I could do one but couldn’t swim; not even doggy paddle. Instead, I participated in a couple of duathlons (run, bike, run). In September 2009, I learned how to swim and the following week I participated in my first triathlon. It was there the addiction was born! Since 2003, I have lost 52 pounds! May 29, 2009 I was baptized. And that is when my life began!
