Introduction	As a child I would collect soft, shiny pieces of broken glass at the beach; gem remnants of disgarded bottles and jars washed to shore after a voyage at sea. Emeralds, a few diamonds, and the rare sapphire. Day after day I would collect the gems and precious stones, hold them up to the setting sun, and be captivated. Life’s little treasures are all around us. I am a mother, a wife and a family doctor. This is what captivates me.
