| Introduction | Gus was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer June 12, 2008. |

| Interests | He went to Seattle for tests and to meet the surgeon Dr. Parks. Surgery was not an option at the time. Gus came home and went through a 4 month regiment of chemo and radiation. He went back to Seattle December 2008 for surgery. The surgeon was not able to remove the entire tumor due to its intimacy with the small intestine and vital arteries. The pathology results did show that the majority of the tumor was now scar tissue. Gus continued chemo treatments through the spring of 2009. He then chose to discontinue chemo so he could enjoy life for awhile. Blood tests and CT scans looked promising at the time. Towards the end of June 2009 Gus started experiencing pain and a lack of appetite. The oncologist believed the pain was caused from the pancreatic tumor pressing on nerves. Gus started chemo treatment again July 11, 2009. He continued treatment until November 23, 2010. At that time the treatment was doing more harm than good and so Gus decided to stop. |
