About me

Introduction Beginning in November 2011, the two-woman Broad Adventures team of Liddell Shannon and Kara Sweeney embarked on a year-long, three-part 6700-mile human-powered journey through a meandering river system of the southeast, a bike ride across the southwest, and a through-hike of the west. We have completed the first section by paddling sea kayaks 1,784 miles on the French Broad, Tennessee, Ohio, and Mississippi Rivers. This journey, which began in Western North Carolina in winter, took three months, and ended at the Gulf of Mexico in Southern Louisiana. We plan to bike from the bank of the Mississippi River in Louisiana 2,200 miles across the country to San Diego, California during March and April. From San Diego we will begin hiking north on the 2,650 mile Pacific Crest Trail in late April. The PCT section of the journey will end in early Fall at the border of Washington and Canada.
