| Introduction | The URBAN NATURALIST’S ASSOCIATION (UNA Indy) is operated by COURTNEY PORTER with the OBJECTIVE of connecting all people, especially black and brown peoples, in urban centers back into the abundance of NATURE. The organization prides itself on its core values of SPIRIT. NATURE and WELLNESS and engages its mission in several ways using WORKSHOPS, FIELD STUDIES & ADVENTURES and ALKALINE FOOD OFFERINGS as modalities to reach and serve the people. Native to Gary, Indiana, Porter is the single mother to three children whom she shares her passions of sustainability and wellness with. The naturalist is a CERTIFIED MUSHROOM EXPERT and has engaged with several community development projects since she has resided in Indianapolis not only in the wellness arena but also as an artist. Currently Porter partners with Scott UMC to facilitate the donation based #LETSEATINDY community dinner discussion initiative that pairs community relevant topics with alkaline food offerings. She also has been tasked with spearheading a food forest in south Indy where she is an administrator of the H.E.R Sage Living campus. She is also a member of the WE ARE INDY ARTS collective. |
