| Introduction | It was never my intention to become a writer. Writing chose me. Before I fully realized this destiny, I tried to silence the writer in me: I graduated in Literature, worked as a journalist, a magazine editor, and a book editor under the nom de plume Claudia Wright. I also used to write short stories and novels, but threw them mostly away, considering their quality left a lot to be desired. Yet, in 2002 I was called from Washington, D.C. to work as a consultant for a prominent international organization. In this city, the silence was broken and I began to write what would become my first novel to be published: El imperativo del agua (whose title in English will probably be Water Laws). The manuscript followed, and in 2005 it was chosen as a finalist for the Fernando Lara Award (Planeta publishing house). After a long search, in 2008 the novel was finally published by Ediciones Simurg. Today, settled back in Buenos Aires, even whether I work as a translator and managing editor, I have finished two other novels, and became one of the short story writers awarded with the Manuel Mujica Láinez Prize in 2012. |
