| Introduction | Chettiars, the menfolk of Chettinad Community, have settled in Singapore from a very historical period, but chettinad womenfolk who are generally referred to as Achis, were still in India. Over a period of time, gradually Achis started coming to Singapore with Chettiars and settle here. Now the Chettiar population has tremendously gone up and their recipes have become very popular world-wide. So I would like to present some of the authentic Chettinad recipes which are very healthy, along with other ever popular recipes and few other interesting topics, with Singapore touch... | Interests | As a mother, I always give in to my kids' demands and try many new recipes. Yet, I cook a lot of traditional Chettinad recipes, which all of us enjoy. Both my mother and mother- in-law are great cooks. My mother cooks simple recipes which are very easy to follow with selected few ingredients, yet very tasty. On the other hand my m-i-l's recipes are detailed and very creative. She always has instant rescue ideas when any recipe turns into a flop. Whenever possible I try to get traditional recipes from Achis. Invariably all Achis have numerous recipes and tips to offer. I also share and exchange recipes with my friends who never cease to amaze me and I visit plenty of recipe blogs to learn more. I thank all of them for their invaluable ideas which have shaped me into a kind of cook I am today. |
