| Introduction | Alex has been diagnosed with several different things since he was 2: sensory integration disorder, ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome which is a form of autism. On March 25, 2009 he woke up confused and disoriented. Mike put him back to bed and commented on how odd he was acting. Minutes later there was a crash and crying. Alex had gotten out of bed, fallen and cut his chin on a toy truck. In the emergency room, still confused and disoriented, Alex hallucinated as the night went on. He didn't recognize his parents. A CAT scan, MRI, 2 EEGs, a second opinion, and a blood test later, Alex was diagnosed with ALD, adrenoleukodystrophy. ALD is a genetic disorder, and it was soon discovered that Alex's brother, Zach, is also afflicted. |
