InterestsMaking cycling more a more viable method of transportation to our community by providing affordable recycled bikes, conducting bicycle safety classes, and fostering self-sufficiency through mechanics classes.
Favorite moviesGrowing out of Melvin T. Smylie’s hobby, the effort has recycled more than 2000 bicycles. We receive donated bicycles and parts in various stages of disrepair. Then, using a volunteer staff, we repair and rebuild them into road and trail worthy machines. We are able to sell quality bikes at very affordable prices through accepting donations and utilizing volunteers. This creates possibilities for people who cannot afford a new bicycle. Our goals are to: 1) repair, rebuild, and recycle bicycles and reintroduce them into the community thus reducing landfill, 2) educate people to maintain, repair, and safely ride bicycles, 3) promote cycling in our community as a clean alternative form of transportation. Reintroduction happens as we sell bikes at local events and donate bikes to local organizations that are dedicated to helping families in need. We have had success in sales at various downtown events and donations to Project Merry Christmas and the Women’s Shelter. Education encompasses all levels of bike maintenance and repair, focusing on the most common skills needed. Our goal of education has yet to reach its full potential as we would like to hold workshops for adults and youth on bike maintenance and bicycle safety. Promotion of cycling as a viable form of transportation will happen through fulfillment of our first two goals...keep reading in music...
