| Introduction | Sorry to be a cliché but it all started in the war. I was born in Manchester in nineteen-eighteen though I left as a baby and had never even visited until two months ago. Recently I was taken by a whim to move to the city of my birth. So I rather recklessly sold up and bought a quaint little flat in the Northern Quarter. I thought it would be fun to spend my last days right in the middle of things. All those young people living exciting lives will hopefully keep me young too, if only at heart, because although I may not be as delicious as I once was I still have a lot of living left to do. |
