| Introduction | A father, husband, son, brother, "rootless cosmopolitan", secular but acknowledge spirituality, and an incorrigible pessoptimist. Also a teacher, started as a second career more than twenty years ago in my mid-thirties. Haven't regretted it since. I was once asked whether I regard myself as a visionary. My answer was: No, not really. But then I have acquired the somewhat dubious reputation in my school as someone who constantly raises questions about why we do things the way we do, without ever being satisfied with the answers, and without necessarily having answers to my own questions. Hence this blog - to dream of other possibilities for schools (including dying out, or evolving into something very unlike the schools we see today), learning (as an essentially human activity, beyond something confined to schools or workplaces), and education (understood broadly as a series of actions punctuated by conversations about them, but aimed at a better grasp of the world and of one's self). |
