| Introduction | La Vache Espagnole is Maria L. Colina. She is not, in fact, a Spanish Cow as the name of her blog would have you believe, but a 24 year-old traveling, writing, language-learning, history-loving Editorial Assistant in Boston, Massachusetts. “Tu parles francais comme une vache espagnole” is a saying used by the French to refer to foreigners – Spaniards in particular - who don’t speak their language well. In English it means, “you speak French like a Spanish cow”. Maria is originally from Houston, Texas, but her Spanish roots and a life spent bouncing around the globe encountering one new language to learn after another have kept her all too aware of that “Spanish Cow” feeling. |
