Introduction I grew up in Machiasport, Maine in the 1980s in a small house overlooking Machias Bay with my two younger sisters, my parents, and a cat named Andrew. Mum was a rural mail carrier, (still is, actually) dad, an industrial arts teacher at the local high school.

The population in Machiasport was just over 1,100 people. It hasn't changed much since. I went to school five miles away, in the Washington county seat of Machias, a booming metropolis of just over 2,500 residents.

Downeast Maine, though isolated and poverty-stricken, is one of the most beautiful places on earth. A sense of community is abound, and the down-to-earth residents are hard-working and loyal. All in all, its a nice place to call 'home'.
