Introduction	The Ecological Association “The Hydrean Monk Seal” was founded in 1988 at the island of Hydra with the aim to protect the environment and Greek cultural heritage within the broad areas of archaeology, traditional settlements and submarine antiquities. With respect to ecology, the range of the Association’s activities covers the protection of natural reserves, fauna (protected species: horses, donkeys, mules, birds-hawks, bullfinches, etc) and most notably the Mediterranean monk seal Monachous Monachous, which lives and reproduces in the Myrtoan Sea and the eastern part of the Peloponnese. The Association has also carried out projects in collaboration with the University of Athens (zoology chair), the University of the Aegean, the relevant department of the Ministry of Environment, Energy & Climate Change, the European Union and other organizations such as the WWF and Mom (Society for the Study and Protection of the Mediterranean Monk Seal). Regarding the protection of the traditional settlements and the archaeological heritage.
Interests	The Association’s interventions have led to six executive decrees for the benefit of Hydra: 1993 The intervention of the Ecological Association of Hydra led to a draft executive decree for the transference of jurisdictions from the Ministry of Environment, Energy & Climate Change and the Ministry of the Aegean Sea to the Ministry of Culture. 1994 The ancient island of “Aperopia”, known today as “Dokos Hydras” was proclaimed as Non-building Zone A and the sea around “Dokos” an archaeological park. 1996 The whole island of Hydra (and not only its traditional settlements) was declared an archaeological space and every settlement of the island was held under the auspices of the state as regards the historicity, the monumental aspect of the island, the land uses and the building terms for the areas within and without the town planning. 1998 The intervention of the Ecological Association of Hydra in the department of Byzantine and post-Byzantine Monuments resulted in the placing of signs/epigraphs in the island of Hydra under particular specifications. 2002 The Ecological Association of Hydra, mediating in the Ministry of Culture, brought to a final resolve the issue of the ban of vehicles in Hydra with the publication of a joint Ministerial decree regarding the circulation of vehicles in the island.
Favorite movies	2003 Following the intervention of the Ecological Association of Hydra in the Ministry of Culture, the latter approved the cost-free assignment to the Municipality of Hydra of the use of the sea shore and beach in the areas Mikro Kamini, Vlychos, Plakes Vlychou, Mpisti, Aghios Nikolaos. The assignment was agreed for the purposes of direct development from the Municipality or for the latter’s issuing of development permissions to individuals under specific conditions. For the past twenty years the Association is organizing events in collaboration with various prestigious state and private institutions such as the “Hellenic Society for the Protection of the Environment and the Cultural Heritage”, the “Hellenic Archaeological Association”, the “Goulandris Natural History Museum”, the “Benaki Museum”, the “National Gallery”, the “Byzantine Museum in Athens”…
