Papa Sanctus Pius X
Gender | Male |

Location | Rome, Vatican City, Italy |
Introduction | I was born in Riese, Italy on June 2, 1835. I was born into abject poverty but because of my holiness and intellectual aptitude, I was given a scholarship to attend the seminary at Padua. I was ordained a priest in 1858 and became chaplain at Tombolo. My parishioners loved me and I was wildly successful. In 1867, I became arch-priest of Salzano. Again I was very successful and was eventually made bishop in 1879. I served successfully in a few assignments, was elevated to the rank of cardinal by Pope Leo XIII, and was elected pope upon Leo's death in 1903. My reign was glorious. I lowered the age for the reception of communion, restored beauty to the liturgy, re-instated Gregorian Chant, upheld the role of the Church in state, and was a scourge of modernism in all of its forms. I was the first pope to be canonized since Pope St. Pius V and no other pope has been canonized since. |
