Introduction Peter Wale is from Cape Town, South Africa. He began writing songs at 14. Around 1970, he led a popular band called, "Wakeford Hart." The apartheid government found certain songs controversial and threatened action if he did not stop performing them. In the winter of 1972, Peter joined a yacht crew of five and sailed to Rio de Janeiro. After two years living and traveling in South America, he arrived in the U.S., first picking fruit, then painting houses and then owning a millwork business, all the while continuing to write. Rachel Christenson grew up in Decorah, Iowa. Her parents were both musicians and eventually formed a musical ensemble with their six children. They traveled and performed in the midwest, as well as throughout Europe. After hearing Peter play the song, Down in Africa, Rachel knew that he would have to become a part of her life. She collaborates with him in the writing and arranging of songs, singing harmony and playing various flutes.
