| Introduction | 6 years ago I came to New York for one reason: the fashion industry. But then I spent a miserable year at FIT followed by an even more miserable year at my first job. The line went under and my design team was laid off. To avoid unemployment I had two options: a job at Talbots or a job waiting tables at the trendy SoHo location of Dos Caminos. Much to my recruitor (and parents) dismay, I chose the restaurant... and it changed my life. First it was the different tequilas that intrigued me, but increasingly it was the vast world of wine. At the start of 2007 I moved to 'inoteca on Manhattan's LES. It had a labrynth-like all Italian wine list that beckoned to me like a challenge. By years end, the owners had agreed to let me move into the Assistant Wine Director position, and the following summer I was promoted to Wine Director at their other restaurant, Bar Milano, where I took over full beverage responsibilities, and eventually opened the second location for 'inoteca. After almost 3 years of intense study, I've come to Italy to see the land, the vines, and meet the people who make the wines I've become so well acquainted with. |
