| Introduction | I'm from Philadelphia, PA, where I graduated Overbrook High School. My mother, Mildred Phillips, was also a writer and poet, having composed lyrics for numerous published songs, including Bill Haley’s Mambo Rock. My wife, Roberta, nee Briskin, is a librarian and poetry therapist. I graduated Penn State with a a BS in EE. I continued my education at the U. of Pa. and GW Law Schools; at GW I was on the Law Review and received a JD. I’m a member of the Pa. (inactive), Calif., and Patent and Trademark Office bars and have over 40 years' experience in the patent profession, as a patent examiner, a patent attorney, a columnist for EDN Magazine and Entrepreneur.com, an instructor at SF State U., and as a private practitioner. I also contributed the Patent, Trademark, and Copyright entries to the World Book Encyclopedia. An inveterate tinker, I obtained two patents of my own.
