| Introduction | Meet the Walshes, authors of, Follow the Dog Home. Left to right: Kevin, Samantha and Bob Walsh. Beverly is the German Shepherd. Bob is holding Annie the Corgi. 41-year-old Kevin is a well-known Boston area TV sportscaster. 10-year-old Samantha is a future veterinarian. Bob is retired from the pharmaceutical industry. He is a fisherman who builds fly rods from scratch and ties his own flies. In Follow the Dog Home, Beverly leads the family back to the home where Bob, unknowingly, lived as a baby. Seventy years after Bob was photographed on the stoop of the home, he returned with his children, grandchildren and dogs, to recreate the photo. In between are stories of how the family dog helped the Walshes and other families bond over something as strong as blood, in good times and bad. Through world wars, the polio era, death, birth, job loss, relocation and so many generational and technological changes, there has been one, and only one constant--the family dog. And it's not just the Walshes, you will see your family and your stories while reading about theirs. That's what good writing is about, and it's right here. |
