OccupationStoryteller
LocationOklahoma, United States
IntroductionI was introduced to storytelling by Glenda Galvan. I would go with her to surrounding schools and other public functions she was asked to attend and I would sit listen and watch how she had the whole audience of all ages enter another world. The traditional way of storytelling is by the mother giving her stories to her daughters and they, in turn, would give them to their daughters. But, in Glenda's words, "the good Lord blessed me with two boys." So traditionally, the stories would end with her. She began to ask the elders, whom she much respected, what could be done so that the stories would continue. A few said nothing could be done; but others told her that she could adopt someone, a person that she felt would tell the stories the way they should be told. With great honor, I accepted when she asked me and I have been having the time of my life ever since. Today, I am the recognized traditional storyteller for my tribe. With this title I have been able to travel across the globe sharing the stories as far away as China and as a member of a global peace initiative to Amman, Jordan.
InterestsRight now, my life centers around my newphew Brody and teaching him to become everything I know he is capable of.
Favorite musicI depends my mood. I was raised in a Indian church listening to Choctaw hymns and gospel music with my Granny, Elvis with my wonderful Aunt Jeanie, who I miss very much, old country and Beatles with my dad, and Motown with my mom. I appreciate all areas of music. I love music with a message or even better yet music that gives you an "A-Ha" moment.
