Sponges and tongues are frequently misspelled. Is it because both are thirsty?
No, it is because pirates used to dive for sponges when they ran out of freshwater on their ship. Sponges consume the ions of sodium chloride from seawater so it is safe to quench a thirsty tongue with the water that sponges excrete. See, pirates are horrible spellers and that is why these two words are frequently misspelled.
