Introduction Hello, I'm Kerry Wilson and I'm known as the blind potter. I lost my eyesight in June of 1997 from a genetic disorder referred to as PXE. I'm a mother of five and found myself becoming very frustrated due to the loss of my eyesight. Then I discovered clay and pottery became the main source of relief for my frustration. At first pottery was just a way for me to get rid of the stress that being blind caused me. Slowly it turned into a passion for me as I learned to work with the clay. Pottery became a way for me to take control of my life again. I learned how to make all kinds of art pieces out of the clay with my sense of touch not by seeing the pieces. As time progressed I started making works of art like Angels and Mermaids. I decided I wanted to share my art with other people so I started selling it at craft shows in North Carolina with the help of my devoted husband Mark. With every piece of pottery that was sold, my feeling of self worth increased helping me overcome the depression the sudden loss of eyesight had caused. I teach pottery classes in Lexington, North Carolina.
