Introduction In April 2007, Dick Matgen became executive director of Open Square Foundation. For several years, Open Square Foundation (previously Agora Foundation) built the capacity of the water sector to provide safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene education in the developing world. For the last three years, Open Square’s grant making has focused on efforts to end violence against women, especially in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Prior to his appointment as executive director of Open Square Foundation, Dick served as Senior Program Officer at Silicon Valley Community Foundation. Prior to working at the foundation, Dick was a Catholic priest for 15 years in both Ohio and the San Francisco Bay Area. Dick has a masters degree in Scriptural Studies from the Athenaeum of Ohio and a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from the University of San Francisco. Dick describes his passion as “helping people achieve their full potential.”
