| Interests | Since early childhood, I have always been fascinated with myriad expressions of art. I loved getting lost in pieces and letting my imagination take me to distant, more interesting places. Art was my escape from ordinary life. Growing up, I was the kid always doodling and sketching in my notebooks. My interest in art grew when I participated in 4-H during grade school. In this club, I had the opportunity to create pieces of art, which were judged and critiqued in fairs. The suggestions the judges gave helped me to become a better artist. As I completed more projects, my love and interest in art grew. I explored different mediums and tools. This past summer I had the good fortune of displaying my reverse plexiglass paintings at the Washington Fine Arts Festival, a juried event. Although I enjoyed working with paints and pastels, my tools of choice were paper and pencil. Sketching animals was my favorite thing to do. I love detail and making things as intricately as possible. I like being able to see realism in my work. When I want to make a realistic piece, my goal is to portray my subject as accurately as possible. I also wish to convey emotion in my pieces, whether it be prominently shown or hidden. I would hope that someone who views my work feels something inside, and doesn’t just see it as a portrait or landscape. I am also especially interested in fabric and fashion. I love applying my skills in design and fine detail to what I wear and jewelry that I make. Someday I hope to pursue a career in the fashion industry. My dream is for my art to take someone else to a distant place, just as the work of others has done for me. |
