| Introduction | Welcome to our journey! My husband, family and I have been renting homes in or near a small ecovillage in Western North Carolina since 2012. We have come to the decision to join the community, select a homesite and build our forever home here in this lovely little valley nestled amongst the scenic and ancient Appalachian Mountains. We have been living an off grid, communitarian lifestyle for almost five years and have learned a great deal. The beautiful passive solar home we have lived in since the spring of 2015 is extremely well designed and has been an amazing place to live, we are grateful for the opportunity every day. However, as our children mature and leave home our needs are changing. The home we live in now has 4 bedrooms and a staircase to the upper level. We know that we will not need this many bedrooms and we would also like to make space for another family with these needs to eventually occupy this home in our little village. In addition, we acknowledge our aging and the thought of climbing those stairs for the rest of our years seemed daunting not only to us but also to our knees! |
