Burning Heart

About me

Location Baltimore, Maryland, United States
Introduction Since this blog is really ECAN's blog (though I will probably write a majority of the posts), I felt that it should have a profile name that fits our mission. We have a burning desire and we have tremendous heart for our mission. But, to be clear, I am Mindy Mintz Mordecai, Founder, President and CEO of the Esophageal Cancer Action Network, ECAN. It's my hope that we will have many other burning hearts writing here. I lost my husband Monte Mordecai to Esophageal Cancer in March of 2008, just weeks before our 14th Anniversary. Our two daughters were just nine and 12 at the time. The hardest thing I have ever had to do was tell my daughters that their father was going to die. I do this work with a fervent hope that we can keep other parents from ever having that conversation with their children. I have to believe there was a reason I was a widow at that point in my life with experience as a tv reporter, lawyer and nonprofit director. There seemed to be no other national group working to raise public awareness about Esophageal Cancer. That's why ECAN was born. That's why we're here.
