Introduction	In 1983 I succumbed to viral encephalitis. Over the years I have developed my own ways of coping with the long term consequences, putting it in terms I could comprehend. This was a very lonely process as I had no real help. Over the last 15 years or so I have been encouraged by Consultants and friends to write a book explaining what I have faced and how I have coped. This though was overwhelming plus I was concerned that what I wrote may be unhelpful or even damaging to others. I have come to accept that the latter view is more reflective of my own negativity rather than anything else. Writing a blog will I hope let me pass on my own experiences without placing the demands of writing a book. It would be nice to think that my writing will benefit at least one person.
