Introduction At the age of 13 whilst playing near the sea in undivided North Cyprus (my home), I discovered what I later learned to be a stone age axe. With the help of my retired grandfather I became passionately involved in ancient history and discovered a hitherto unknown Stone Age settlement. After leaving Cyprus in 1974, I chose a career in medicine, working as a consultant Gynaecologist, specialising in Cancer surgery. By 1999 I had inherited a large collection of antiquities from my father, also a doctor and one of the only specialists working in 1950's Cyprus. Although not particularly interested in ancient art, he acquired his collection in lieu of payment, from patients (a common practice in unregulated colonial Cyprus). Over the years I slowly added a few pieces to my father's collection, becoming a dealer in 2000 and serving as editor of an antiquities journal. This has been a highly enjoyable career but every profession has its problems, and antiquities collecting and dealing are no exception. For this reason I invite all visitors to contribute to this blog and air their views...please keep it clean, didactic, and constructive! Eftis Paraskevaides BSc MBChB FRCS MRCOG MRCPI.
