| Introduction | I live in a beautiful county about 20 miles west of Philadelphia, full of creeks, streams, wooded areas and open spaces that offer me lots of inspiration. Nature, landscapes and water are usually my strongest muses when I'm looking for subject matter. I'm also addicted to photography when traveling, so I often go through my travel photos for inspiration as well. I like to take LOTS of photos, then go home and see what jumps out at me on any given day. Often I find that the best paintings come from the shots that aren't obviously gems upon first glance but once I start trying to translate what I'm seeing and feeling their hidden magic reveals itself. Those are the most gratifying to me! I'm self-taught and only recently made the transition from acrylics to oils and I'm so glad I did! I love to paint wet-in-wet (alla prima) in a thick manner. Whenever possible I like to leave brushstrokes visible and build up the texture, though the texture isn't always obvious in photos. I hope you enjoy these even half as much as I enjoyed painting them! Peace. |
